DESIGN ON A DIME:
"It’s not because I have to. There is something more fulfilling in having to figure out how to do something in a creative way, rather then just going to a store and buying what you need…. reusing old things, finding new ways to use them, putting a little paint on them to spruce them up, finding a funky fabric to revitalize an old Victorian chair... buying something for low cost, and making it into something that is unique and all its own." |

FIX-IT MENTALITY:
"Growing up, there was not a single thing my father wasn’t able to do… he is your full fledged ‘handy man’ - cars, houses, farming - he can do it all. We never hired anyone to do anything for us - if he didn't know how to do it, he'd ask around and figure it out. In a lot of my thrift store and estate sale adventures, I find things that may be broken or need quite a bit of work. Somehow, I can estimate how much time and money I'll have to put into a project and make the call whether it’s worth it… if I gotta do it on a budget and I really can – it’s in my blood to just do it." |

DETAILS:
"My mom is a perfectionist… the ‘hostess with the mostest’ … Christmas, lunches after church, they were constant. All around my house there are small details that you wouldn’t notice if you didn’t look for them, but if they weren't there, it would be unfinished. Whether it is a faux hand-painted floor, brackets in the doorway, hand-painted cabinet doors, or that tassel trim on an already divine pillow - those details are what take a simple and nice room to ‘wow, now this… this is awesome.’’ |
